Make Your Own Lap-Desk / Breakfast-Tray
Hello and welcome to the Creative-Capsule ...!!!
Today's DIY is make your very own Lap desk. This lap tray will become you favorite companion for working on your laptop or having breakfast in bed.
The lap tray is also an excellent support for writing letters, reading or drinking tea. The well-padded tray sits securely on your legs, offers a work surface, doesn't pinch and looks so chic. I saw a similar laptop table on Spotlight website and instantly fell in love with the idea. But when I went to the store, the item was out of stock, so I thought why not make my own. Well this is my version of the versatile lap desk. It requires minimum craftsmanship and you can personalize to suit your mood.
You will need:
- Photo Frame (Old/ New, preferably lightweight and size to fit comfortably on your lap)
- Pillow (Not very fluffy and roughly the same size of the frame)
- Elastic bands / lace / scarp fabric
- Scissors
- Thread and needle / fabric glue
- Some picture or printed quote to go on the frame ( optional)
- Remove the backing of the frame carefully. Keep the glass in place.
- Measure the cushion with the backing and make sure it fits snug against the backing. At this stage, if your cushion is bigger in size then you will need to make adjustments by cutting and seaming the side of the cushion.
- Cut your elastic band about 3-5cm less than the length of the cushion.
- Undo the seams on the sides of the pillow and sew th elastic bands in place. You can also use fabric glue for this, but i personally prefer sewing over glue. Attach the cushion to the backing with the help of the elastic.
- Decorate your frame with photographs or quotes and attach the backing cushion securely in place.
- Now all you need to do is assemble everything together.
- Your very own lap desk is ready to take to bed for reading working or having coffee.
